About Dr. Spillman
Dr. Samuel Spillman graduated from Miami University of Ohio in 2001 with dual bachelor's degrees in Interdisciplinary
Philosophy and in International Studies. He attained his chiropractic degree in 2008 from Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Spillman's long interest in Japanese culture and in the martial arts began in elementary school. This not only influenced his course of study as an undergraduate, but led him to Japan following college. After teaching English in the small village of Joge, he worked in international relations for the city of Saga. During this time he studied aikido and also had the opportunity to try other martial arts, and to participate in and observe tournaments. A persistent back injury prompted his first introduction to the science of chiropractic, leading to a change in his career path. He returned to the United States to complete his pre-med requirements before enrolling in Western States Chiropractic College.
Dr. Spillman continues to respect the rigor and discipline of the martial arts. He is intrigued by the complex machine that is the human body, its strength and its delicacy. His experience leads him to be especially interested in sports medicine and the treatment of acute injuries; his practice also emphasizes whole-body wellness and the prevention of injuries through appropriate exercise and healthy diet changes.
Along with traditional chiropractic and physiotherapy techniques, Dr. Spillman works extensively with soft tissue manipulation. He is certified in the Graston Technique.
He has recently moved to Charlottesville to begin practicing; he chose it, simply, because he thinks it's a great place to live.
